Our Legacy
Establishment
Founded as the Educators' Union of South Africa by three post-level 1 high school teachers: Mr Scelo Bhengu (Founding President), Mr Sphiwe Mpungose (Founding General Secretary) and Ms Nobuhle Mtshali (Founding Deputy President), organising in Basic Education.
Scope Expansion
The NEC resolved to widen the scope and amend the constitution so workers outside the Department of Basic Education could join, becoming the Education and Allied Workers Union of South Africa.
